Minister Mutafchiev Met Minister Ilic Today

The Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev met the Minister of Capital Investments of Republic of Serbia Velimir Ilic today.

During the meeting Minister Mutafchiev confirmed the priority of pan-European corridors VII and X for Bulgaria as an important element for the common European transport infrastructure. He expressed his willingness for cooperation with Serbia by the building and development of the road and railway infrastructure along the corridor X, with a view to achieve high exploitation parameters.

Minister Mutafchiev presented the project for electrification and modernization of the railway line Sofia – Nish. The Bulgarian side offered a common strategy for the modernization of the sector Sofia – Nish to be developed, as this is the only sector along the corridor X without a long-term development strategy. Velimir Ilic promised the electrification of the railway sector from the Serbian side to be accelerated.

A conference of the joint committee for a building of the railway infrastructure along the corridor X is coming up. The goal is to give a chance to the finalizing and signing the rules for the boundary authority’s functions on the common border railway station in Dimitrovgrad, Serbia. The expectations are, till April 2006 the Serbian side to set the railway station in a condition to accept the Bulgarian boundary authorities.

The two sides came to agreement also, to create a workgroup on a level deputy minister’s, which to contribute to the acceleration of the joint project.
