Meeting for Acceleration of Concrete Projects along Corridor VIII Took Place in Brindisi

Meeting for acceleration of concrete projects along transport corridor VIII, especially between Brindisi and the ports in Varna and Burgas, as well as for hasten the commercial and the cultural connections between the two countries took place in the Italian province Brindisi. The talks were initiated by the administration of Brindisi and the local chamber of commerce.

The Bulgarian delegation leaded by the Deputy Minister of Transport Daniela Nikiforova includes also the Director - Executive of the ports Varna and Burgas - Danail Papazov and Argir Boyadshiev, the Director - General of SA "Port Infrastructure" Peter Seferov, the Director of the Duty Free Zone Burgas Vasilij Skripka, as well as the Mayor of the Municipality Oriahovo Georgi Penkov. 

The practical objective of the talks and the necessity of cooperation, during the accomplishment of common infrastructure projects were emphasized during the meeting.

On the press conference the Deputy Minister Nikiforova confirmed the priority of Corridor VIII for the Bulgarian side and informed about the talks with specialists from Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania during the last year. "The ports Brindisi, Varna and Burgas are natural terminals for acceleration of the commercial traffic along Corridor VIII, said Deputy Minister Nikiforova.

The President of the Province Michele Eriko, the President of the Port Authorities Giuseppe Djiurgola and the Deputy Mayor of Brindisi Paolo Kiantera presented their ambitious local projects. They also emphasized that Bulgaria together with Turkey, Egypt, and China presents a big opportunity for the Italian port operators. We have shown a big support for creation of connections between Brindisi through Duras and Macedonia to the Black sea ports Varna and Burgas, for hastening of the transport corridor VIII and its development as a competitor of other pan-European corridors, accentuated the president of the Province.

The delegation saw the port complex, as well as the project for its enlargement and modernizing through the building of a new container terminal, energy zone and three new ship-wharfs.

Within the mainframe of the project for integrated territory development the Bulgarian delegation visited also two leading municipalities and met local operators in the field of transport and logistics.
