The security and control of packages are strengthen because of the doubled volume of letters and parcels for the holidays

By order of the Minister of Transport Information Technology and Communications Aleksander Tsvetkov, the security and control of packages are strengthened because of the doubled volume of letters and parcels for the holidays. Bulgarian Posts controlled strictly the preservation and transportation of parcels according to the introduction of red alert in November. At the beginning of Christmas and New Year’s holidays people send more than twice letters and parcels in the country and abroad. This requires more vigilance of the postal staff.

After the order of Minister Tsvetkov, during the last month were made examinations of the organization for security and transportation of valuables and goods. Systems for physical and fire security were tested extraordinary. All parcels are passed by scanners.

All postal employees are instructed not to allow prohibited articles and substances. Parcels from and to countries which are not members of the European Union are served with particular attention. The coordination with the Ministry of Interior in suspicious parcels and senders is strengthened.

In 2010 compared to 2009 there is 7 % growth of letters sent abroad. In December the increase was twice compared to the rest months of the year. International parcels mark growth  of 3 % compared to 2009. Letters sent within the county are15 % more.

Security measures will be applied even during the holidays. On 24 December /Christmas Eve/ 96 employees will be on duty in 50 post offices, on 25 December Christmas/ are provided 46 employees in 30 post offices and on 31 December – 86 employees in 46 post offices.
