The Deputy Minister Ivailo Moskovski took part in a conference on the development of the infrastructure of Bulgaria

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communication Ivailo Moskovski took part in the 6th annual conference “Strategic Infrastructure, Bulgaria 2011, Priorities 2020”.

At the opening of the event Ivailo Moskovski presented the general trends in the development of the Trans-European Transport Network and the role of Bulgaria in a long term plan up to 2010. Among the priority projects for development of the TEN-T network there are three projects that are passing through the territory of our country. These are “Building of Struma Highway (Sofia -Kulata )”, “Elimination of the narrow places on Rhine-Main-Danube”, including the whole part of the river on Bulgarian territory and “Modernization of the railway VidinSofia – Kulata”, explained the Deputy Minister.

After the approval of the Green Paper on Trans-European Transport Network in 2009, started a process of revision of the directions for development and creation of an incessant transport network within the framework of the European Union. It is expected the development of the Trans-European Transport Network to be on two levels: wide-range network and central network of strategically the most important junctions and connections. The future Trans-European Transport Network should provide the building of the missing connections and to offer a geographically balanced admission.

In the process of revision of the directions, the Bulgarian side gathered, worked and placed information and maps of the transport network of all types transport to the European Commission. Proposals for inclusion of parts of the transport infrastructure of the Republic of Bulgaria in the so-called “wide-range network” were made. The proposals were grounded and defended during the Committees on development of the Trans-European Transport Network that took place in Brussels.

 The concrete proposals of the Bulgarian state for inclusion in the wide-range network are relevant to the road and port infrastructure and the inter-modal terminals. With regard to the railway and airport infrastructure keeps the existing network, explained the Deputy Minister.

During the conference Deputy Minister Moskovski added that the “central network” will be proposed by the European Commission in consequence of the researches of hired consultants and existing researches. After that all the member states will discuss the proposals and will have an opportunity to react.

Within the framework of the conference he presented the priority projects under Operational Programme “Transport”. Only this year the indicative working program includes the presentation of 29 project proposals on the five priority project axes to the total value of 1,6 milliards € (or 80% of the total program budget).

Ivailo Moskovski accepted that the planning and the implementation of projects in a long-term plan will be done on the basis of the priorities underlying in the strategic documents of the Ministry. Among them are the Strategy for the Development of the transport system of the Republic of Bulgaria 2020, the General Transport Master Plan, Strategy for implementation of technical specifications for interoperability of conventional rail system in the Republic of Bulgaria (2010-2030) and Strategy for implementation of European rail Traffic Management (ERTMS). 

The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Rosen Plevneliev, the Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, the Minister of Environment and Water, Nona Karadjova, the Mayor of Sofia Municipality, Jordanka Fandakova, the Deputy Head of the unit responsible for Bulgaria in the Directorate General for Regional Policy of the European Commission, Carsten Rasmussen took part in the conference that was held at Sheraton Hotel, Sofia. Organizers of the event are the newspapers “Capital” and “Building and the city”
