The European Commission has prolonged the term in financing of Danube Bridge 2

29.06.2011

The project Danube Bridge 2 will receive an official decision for prolongation of the financial memorandum by the European Commission up to weeks. That became clear at a meeting of the Monitoring Committee of ISPA that took place on June, 28-29.

A demand for prolongation of the financial memorandum was sent by Bulgaria and Romania. A positive decision of the Commission will allow the bridge to be terminated by European financing in spite of the delay in the recent years. It is expected the dead-line that expired at the end of 2010, to be prolonged two years more.

63% of the construction and installation work on the bridge facilities have been completed up to now. The funds paid amount to 85 million €. 57 % of the building work of the adjoining infrastructure has been completed and the funds paid exceed 38 million €.

The main problem of the contractor about the providing of the necessary quantity of fill materials has been resolved yet. The legal permission of the concession for extraction of building materials was given by the Council of Ministers, and the excavation began on June 24.

Another two projects in the transport area of ISPA have been discussed at the meeting. These are the railway line Plovdiv-Svilengrad and Lulin high road.

By the Road Infrastructure Agency showed cadres of the ready and put into operation Lulin high road. The representatives of the European Commission expressed satisfaction that the project was completed.

The common implementation in the transport sector of ISPA shows that up to now above 490 million € have been paid, announced from the MTITC.
