Minister Papazov: The look of the new traffic towers in Varna and Burgas will be selected after public hearings

The architectural design of coastal management and information centres for shipping in Burgas and Varna will be chosen after a public discussion. This is what the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov during the signing ceremony for the design and construction contracts of the two towers. In the coming days, the conceptual designs for the coastal stations will be out for discussion and recommendations and suggestions will be considered during the working planning.

Minister Papazov highlighted the importance of the information system in ensuring navigation safety in the Black Sea region as well as the important role of the operational centers, which will be housed in the future traffic towers. According to him, the two facilities will work in full communication compatibility which is a good sign for the future development of maritime projects which will be conducted jointly between the two major port cities.

The traffic towers in the two biggest Bulgarian seaport hubs will be built under the "Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information System (VTMIS) - Phase 3” project, financed under Priority Axis 4 "Improvement of maritime and inland waterways" of Operational Programme "Transport 2007-2013". The contractor is ”Midiya - Diana Commerce” consortium and the contract’s implementation value is 3 767 700 Levs (excluding VAT). It is expected that both traffic towers will be completed by the end of June 2014.

Today's ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, representatives of Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company, the contractor and others.
