15.08.2013

More than 150 million Lev have been invested in the design and construction of the two new passenger terminals at the airports of Varna and Bourgas. This was announced by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Danail Papazov, during the official inauguration of the terminal in Varna. The event was attended by the Minister of Education and Science Anelia Klisarova, the CEO of Fraport Aletta von Massenbach, representatives of the local and central authorities and others.

“Once constructed, the terminals become automatically property of the Bulgarian state”, said Minister Papazov. In his words, this clearly shows the advantages in attracting private investors in the management of priority state projects, such as airports, which leads to their swift and quality modernization. “Our city now has a modern European airport which offers quality services to its customers, with a beautiful and contemporary interior”, he added.

Minister Papazov stated his appreciation to the civil aviation specialists for the development of the sector and for ensuring safety of millions of passengers around the world who use this transport mode. “That is why our common goal is to continue to offer a safe, regular and effective air transport”, he added.

The investment in the construction of the terminal in Varna only, amounts to over 75 million Lev. It was constructed in about 20 months at the area of 20 000 m², which is about three times as much as the area for servicing passengers at the old terminal.

The new passenger terminal in Varna is the second largest investment of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD in the airport of Varna for the past year and a half. At the end of February last yea, a modernized runway for taking off and landing was opened, which was an investment of 40 million Lev. Meanwhile, the concessionaire has repaid more that 100 million Lev to the state in the form of taxes, concession and other fees.

The construction of the terminal in Bourgas is also in its final stage and it is to be commissioned soon.
