Bulgarian IT organizations received over 22 million euros in the period 2007 - 2013 under two programs coordinated by MTITC

The new Framework Prgramme of the European Union for support of the scientific research and innovations in the period 2014-2020, has a total budget of 77 billion euros. This was stated by Totka Chernaeva, National Coordinator of the program during the information day for Bulgarian research organizations and companies, organized by the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.

"Horizon 2020" will be focused on innovative products and services which provide opportunities for the development of the universities, research organizations and businesses. The share of Information and Communication Technologies in the general funding is 9 billion euros.

The working programme in the field of information and communication technologies in the period 2014-2015 was presented during MTITC’s information day. They are grouped into six major categories: New generation of components and systems; Advanced computing systems; Future Internet; Technologies for content and information management; Robotics; Micro and nano electronics and photonics. Currently there are three competitions open for application at the total amount of 735 million euros.

According to data from MTITC by the end of 2013 in the ICT field under the Seventh Framework Programme 632 projects with Bulgarian participation were submitted. Seventy-eight proposals were contracted with 89 Bulgarian organizations, as the funding for the Bulgarian participants amounts in total to 16.707 261 million euros. The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences ranks first with 16 successful projects.

The participation of Bulgarian small and medium enterprises was very active - more than 4 times above the EU average indicator on funding. 66% of the funds received went to the small businesses. The participants from the academic institutions are 43%. The Bulgarian participants were most successful in the areas of Intelligent Information Management, Network media, Language Technologies, and ICT for social inclusion.

The results of the Bulgarian participation in the Program "ICT policy support" of the Framework Programme "Competitiveness and Innovations" 2007-2013 were presented. A total of 160 proposals were submitted in eight competitions of the program with 222 Bulgarian participants. Forty-three of the projects were funded with 61 Bulgarian companies approved for funding with 5.026 348 euros.
