Minister Danail Papazov: The state is committed at all levels to solve the problems of the Bulgarian carriers

13.02.2014

The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov introduced today  the Members of the Committee on Transport, Information Technology and Communications at the National Assembly with the latest information on road transport between Bulgaria and Turkey.

Minister Danail Papazov said that the Bulgarian government is committed at all levels to resolve problems on road transport between Bulgaria and Turkey. He added intensive diplomatic talks have been conducted. As a result of the continuous dialogue yesterday at around 20:00 a letter from the Turkish Minister of Transport was received, which discusses a new approach to a long-term solution, said Minister Papazov. According to him, due to the insistence of the Bulgarian side to hold an emergency meeting between the two transport ministers the Turkish side had proposed the meeting be brought forward from 21 to 17 February.

Minister Danail Papazov also said that due to the changed position of Turkey, Bulgaria granted the required amount of permits to the Turkish side. This led to the lift of the blockade of carriers on the border and the trucks started passing in both directions, he added.

From 00:15 to 13:30 today nearly 600 trucks, 67 of which with single permits, passed from Turkey to Bulgaria through Kapitan Andreevo. More than 400 vehicles, including 16 with single permits, have passed in the opposite direction from Bulgaria to Turkey. Nearly 300 trucks, including 76 with single permits, were processed from Turkey to Bulgaria  through Lesovo border check point between 3:40 to 13:30. In the opposite direction, from Bulgaria to Turkey, 360 vehicles of which a total of about 20 vehicles with single permits, have passed.
