12.03.2014

The student Georgi Tsanev is the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications for a day. He and his counterpart Danail Papazov took part in the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers where they reported the issues in the corresponding field.

The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications is part of the “Junior Achievement” – Manager for a day initiative. Initially, ten students were to take the positions of the Minister, the Deputies, the Chief of the Cabinet and the Directors of NRIC, Holding BDZ EAD, BULASTA, Sofia Airport EAD and Bulgarian Posts EAD. Due to the huge interest in MTITC’s activities, six more students got involved in its daily operations.

In the morning the students took part in the meetings of the corresponding manager. Following a working lunch when they shared their impressions, they visited some of the major offices of the ministerial structure. The Head of Sofia Central Railway Station showed them the traffic management center. A tour of the Korona Express and Vitosha Express trains was organized. At the end of the day the young managers will visit Sofia Airport, where they will be presented with the operation of the airport and will meet the people who manage the air traffic at the BULATSA control center.

Each of the participants in the initiative was presented a diploma by MTITC together with a one-day contract that enlists their responsibilities. The young managers also received business cards with the post they occupy and which they used during the meetings throughout the day.

The “Manager for a Day” promotes experiential student learning and fosters productive relationships among business, education and the community. This is the most direct approach of Junior Achievement Bulgaria to meet young people with the real business. Every year more than 1000 school and university students in the whole country have the opportunity to test their skills and plan their career development. They spend a day in leading Bulgarian and international companies and learn directly from top managers. Even though they are together for a day many of the youngsters and their hosts keep in contact afterwards. Internship or job offers are common for the ones that excelled.
