Deputy Minister Valery Borisov: The hacker attack of 25 October a rehearsal for the second round of local elections

03.11.2015

Over two billion queries within 24 hours were made to one of the largest institutional sites around the time of the second round of local elections in Bulgaria, said the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borissov in response to journalists' questions. According to him, the attack on information sites of state institutions on October 25 was only a rehearsal for the hacker activities during the second round. The simultaneous targeting of billions of queries was organized from addresses in Asia, Europe, Africa and others.

The Deputy Minister said that on November 1, the impact of the attacks on the website of the Central Election Commission was not that visible to internet users as the experts of "Information Services" Plc and the team to respond to computer incidents at the Executive Agency "Electronic Communications Networks and Information Systems "- CERT BG had taken the necessary measures.

Deputy Minister Valery Borissov stressed that the attacks are aimed only at the information portals of institutions. Information systems containing data of various state institutions are reliably protected, he was adamant.

Team to respond to computer incidents to CERT BG, made a request for assistance to the American Center US CERT. In the meantime, Bulgarian institutions work collaboratively to repel attacks, but handling the consequences will be more expensive than what was probably paid for organizing the unusual traffic, commented Deputy Minister Valery Borissov.
