Bulgaria is increasingly active in the global Internet community, says the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers

04.12.2015

Bulgaria is ever more active in the global Internet community, said the Vice President of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Jean-Jacques Sahel at the opening of the Fifth Domain Forum in Sofia today.

"Our country is actively developing all aspects related to the Internet - from its management to network and information security", said Hristo Hristov, Director of "Information Technology” to the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications during the forum. Bulgaria supports efforts towards a model of Internet governance with the participation of all stakeholders. At the national level the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications actively cooperates with the Internet community - businesses, NGOs and academia. A result of this fruitful cooperation is the establishment of the national top-level domain (TLD) in Cyrillic ".бг". The procedure for selecting an organization to set up and administer a register of the Cyrillic domain ".бг" is in its final phase.

Hristo Hristov pointed out that Internet security is one of the most important aspects of the management of the global network. He added that the National Computer Security Incidents Response Team (CERT) carries out tasks related to prevention, protection and analysis of computer incidents, assisting the work of a number of departments and institutions.

In the past year following the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a large number of Bulgarian experts were introduced in the field of Internet governance, said the Director of "Information Technology".
