21.12.2015

"For centuries Plovdiv has been a symbol of the culture of our continent. The city was a center of ancient and medieval art and culture. Today, with its rich history and a constellation of contemporary artists, the city is one of the best places for cultural capital of Europe." This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borisov during a ceremony of putting into service of a thematic collector’s edition postage stamp, which will promote the upcoming event. Deputy Minister Valeri Borisov congratulated the artist - Tetyana Uzunova for the recreation of one of the symbols of the city. In his words, the amphitheater has been already portrayed two times on Bulgarian postage stamps. Once, it embellished a philatelic edition in the late 80’s on the occasion of the National Philatelic Exhibition in Plovdiv. In 2002, the building was anchored in the background of the stamp dedicated to the European Chess Championship in Plovdiv.

The edition "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019" is a block with a postage stamp and special postmark. The circulation of the stamp is 10,050 pieces.

"Today's postal stamp validation is a step forward on the long road that we will walk together, because the state institutions are involved with Plovdiv’s hosting as a capital of European culture in 2019", stated during the ceremony the Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva.
