The first Sofia tram and trolley decorate a postage stamp

The first tram and the first trolley, which were used by the citizens of Sofia in the beginning of the 20th century, are the face of a block of postage stamps dedicated to 125 years of metropolitan motor transport. The seal for commissioning was placed today by Minister of Transport and Communications Korman Ismailov, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, Deputy Mayor Viktor Chaushev and the project artist Svetlin Balesdrov.

"More than a century ago, the Sofia tram was not only a means of transport, but part of the city's communication network. In 1904, mailboxes were installed on the trains, and the letters were processed with a stamp with the inscription "On the tram", the Minister of Transport and Communications said at the ceremony. Today, these stamps are a valuable object for collectors and a testament to the link between transport and communications, he added. The bloc "125 years of metropolitan auto transport" will also attract philatelists, because it also includes the first postage stamp dedicated to trolley transport in Bulgaria.

"The message of the publication is that transport is not only about movement, it is about connectivity. The post offices have the same mission, "Korman Ismailov said.
Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev added that today, when we mark 147 years since the proclamation of Sofia as the capital, electric transport is an exceptional priority. "This is something we are working on together with the Ministry of Transport and Communications," he stressed.

The first edition, which was validated today, will remain in the collection of the Tourist Information Centre in Sofia "Tram 83", where the ceremony was held.
