By order of the Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev, immediately after the accident with the Train 5620 derailed locomotive, a commission was appointed to make an investigation about the circumstances and the reasons for the incident.

After an examination of the collected data, circumstances, facts and reasons for the incident, the commission came out with a standpoint. As a result of this, the director general of the national company “Railway Infrastructure” Dimitar Gaidarov imposed a punishment on five of his employees, and another one was dismissed.

To remind you, that on February 1, 2006 at 8.37am on the railway line Sofia – Kulata, between the railway stations Vladaia – Dragichevo, a passenger train 5620 locomotive was derailed. There were no injured passengers. The direction of the train was Dragichevo – Vladaia. The traffic between the two railway stations was stopped from 8.30 am to 2.20 pm on that day.

The followed investigation categorized the accident as light railway incident, in accordance to the regulations for functional interaction of the authorities for safety and control of the railway transport.

The derailment has been realized in a sector with an extreme geometry of the railway, by unfavorable parameters. Nevertheless national company “Railway Infrastructure” and the firm which is working on the exploitation and the maintenance of the railway infrastructure (PPJI) Sofia1, critically assessed the seriousness of the accident. They launched immediately activities, which to guarantee the security of the railway traffic on that section and in the country.
