Minister Mutafchiev Attended the Pan-European Conference for the Domestic Waterways 14.09.2006

The Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev attended the Third Pan-European Ministers Conference for the Domestic Waterways. It took place on September 13 – 14, 2006 in Bucharest. Host of the forum was the Minister of Transport, Building and Tourism Radu Berchany.

Within the mainframes of the meeting the participants exchanged opinions and ideas for the future development of the domestic waterways transport. They discussed the assumed engagements, following the Declaration from Rotterdam 2001, evaluated the achieved progress and defined the unresolved problems. A mainframe for common future activities was created.

The conference included three main themes: the progress, registered since the Rotterdam Conference; the coordinated development of the domestic waterways transport; the domestic waterways and the environment.

In his statement during the meeting Minister Mutafchiev said that today Republic of Bulgaria actively participates in the work of the Danube Commission in Budapest, in the European Economic Commission Workgroup on the domestic waterways, as well as in other international organizations, connected with the river Danube, as part of the European domestic waterways.

At the end of the conference a declaration will be signed. It will emphasize the river-navigation safety, the health of the workers and their protection.
