Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications

In the Ministry of Transport took place the regular monthly meeting for reporting the progress on the Project "Building of a New Combined (Road and Railway) Bridge over the River Danube, between Bulgaria and Rumania, near Vidin - Kalafat". It was ascertained, during the meeting that the Executor of the Project - the Spanish Company FCC is already finishing the submission of the project documentation parts, in order to be examined by the Engineer, the French - British Company INGEROP High-point Rendel; and is also finalizing the preparation of the Plan "Safety and Health".  The Engineer is working on the preparation of the report for Project Accordance and next, the Ministry of Transport will introduce the necessary Documents in the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, in order to receive permission for the building itself.

The expectations are, that up to the middle of May the permission will be given and the "Turning of the First Sod" will take place. The Ministry of Transport and FCC will be co-promoter of the event.

High level governmental attendance of the event, from Bulgarian and Rumanian side is expected, as well as from the European Commission and the Stability Pact. Representatives of all donors and creditors of the project, as well as members of the regional district administrations and the local authority will also attend the occasion.

The project for the Bridge near Vidin - Kalafat is one of the priorities of the Bulgarian Government. Since September 2005, the Ministry of transport undertakes permanently concrete measures for the acceleration of its implementation and for overcoming of the delay, accumulated in the time before.
