Minister Mutafchiev participated in the Acceptation of a Common Declaration for Building a High Quality and High Speed Railway Network in Southeastern Europe 27.01.2006

The Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev attended the Meeting of the ministers of transport from Southeastern Europe. The forum took place today, January 27, 2006 in Athens, Greece. A common Declaration for building a high speed and high quality railway network was accepted on the meeting. This is the first and very significant step to the joint building of a better railway infrastructure in Southeastern Europe, compatible and comparable with these of the EU member countries. The project for high speed railway network includes 16 railway directions, five from which across Bulgaria. These are the railway lines:

1. Vidin – Sofia – Kulata – Athens
2. Belgrade – Sofia – Plovdiv – Svilengrad – Istanbul
3. Strimona – Kulata – Sofia – Gorna Oriahovitsa – Varna
4. Duras – Skopje – Gjueshevo – Sofia – Varna – Burgas
5. Bucharest – Gjurgevo – Ruse – Gorna Oriahovitsa – Stara Zagora – Svilengrad – Pythion

Within the framework of his visit in Athens the Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev carried out bilateral talks with his colleges from Greece, Serbia, Rumania, Macedonia and Turkey. During the Conversation with his Greek Colleague Ljapis, Minister Mutafchiev posed ones again the issue about the validity of the Bulgarian driving licenses owned by Bulgarian citizens – permanent residents in Greece. Minister Ljapis, from his part, engaged himself to resolve the problem quickly.
