The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC) has initiated the design of a project on optical telecommunication infrastructure in Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and communications Ivaylo Moskovski at a round table entitled “Single Digital Market through e-governance and digital entrepreneurship”. The development in information technologies will boost the economy of the North-West region, added the Transport Minister. He further explained that MTITC’s management had had a series of meetings with Serbian and Romanian representatives as well as the European Commission so as to speed up the initiative.

Minister Ivaylo Moskovski said at the round table that Bulgaria supports the efforts of the EC to eliminate the barriers before the common digital market. Among the projects, with which the country contributes, is the establishment of networks for high-speed Internet access in remote areas financed under Operational Program “Regional Development”. The infrastructure encompasses 29 municipal centers, the public institutions and schools.

Another important project is the Electronic Identification Act. According to the Minister next week the bill will be sent for agreement in the ministries and institutions that will later implement it. A few days ago the public consultations ended and gave the green light to the bill.

The Forum was organized by the Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies and the MEP Eva Paunova. The EC Vice President and Commissioner on Single digital Market Andrus Ansip, the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Dontchev took part in the first panel of the forum.
