About 40 000 passengers annually will be able to use the new air line from Sofia to Zurich, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski today at the opening inauguration of the direct air line Sofia-Zurich operated by  Swiss International Air Lines.

Minister Moskovski thanked the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Swiss Confederation and Principality of Liechtenstein Meglena Plugchieva and the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Bulgaria Denis Knobel for the efforts to resume the line. He highlighted that Sofia Airport is a well developing airport which has maintained the good last year trend. Data show that the number of passengers and aircrafts serviced in April increased by 6 per cent compared to the same period last year.

According to the Minister due to the increase of the number of passengers and flights the airport infrastructure is also being developed. There are ongoing construction works for the expansion of the anti-frost platform in the East direction, which will increase the capacity of the facility three times.

Minister Moskovski added that this year envisages the construction of a new speed taxing runaway. Its construction will reduce the taxing time for planes and will ensure greater operability of the runaway and the platform.
