Follow the rules when level crossing 03.06.2015

Address by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski

On the occasion of 3 June – International Level Crossing Day

Today we officially mark the International Level Crossing Day. I would like to use the opportunity and ask all Bulgarian citizens to follow strictly the rules for level crossing and do so only when they are allowed to.

It is important for all of us, motorists and pedestrians, to behave responsibly on the road so as not to hamper our lives and those of others.

The smallest violation of the Road Traffic Act when level crossing can have serious consequences. Thus, I call for WAITING when there are barriers and sound or light signaling that indicate a train coming. Short minutes of patience save lives!

The rules are simple and every motorist has to know them and stick to them. Frivolity is not a good advisor and the risks taken simply because a vehicle is fast or big can be fatal.

Incidents can be avoided with minimum efforts on the part of motorists. They should abide by the rules for level crossing.

I call on all citizens who cross railway lines in an unregulated manner. Cross only at the specially indicated places for pedestrians – crossings, overpasses, underpasses and footbridges. I rely on your conscientiousness!

Let us be responsible so as to protect our lives and always abide by the following rules when level crossing: STOP, LISTEN, LOOK AROUND AND IF THERE IS NO TRAIN – CROSS!
