The logistics sector is the main driving mechanism of the European economy, said the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anton Ginev today at the opening of the conference "Trends and innovations in transport and logistics".

Deputy Minister Ginev stressed that the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications pursue a sustainable and coherent transport policy, which is the basis for the development of the logistics sector in Bulgaria.

In his words, the logistics business is a major factor for the economic development of our country, as MTITC’s efforts are aimed at creating optimal conditions for development, transport infrastructure and the necessary intermodal terminals.

In this regard, the projects for the construction of intermodal terminal in Plovdiv, as well as preparation for the construction of intermodal terminals in Varna and Rousse are currently in progress.

Investments for the development and upgrading of rail and road infrastructure are made under Operational Program "Transport 2007-2013", while for ports and airports mechanisms for public-private partnership are used.

In conclusion, Anton Ginev noted that in the effective functioning of the transport and logistics system the intelligent transport systems play a key role. He informed that in this regard under OPT the following projects were implemented: Geographic Information Systems at the National Railway Infrastructure Company and at Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company. For the needs of the port infrastructure the towers traffic were commissioned in Varna and Burgas in late summer, as well as the river information system RIS - BULRIS. A system for improving the management of traffic flows automated, collecting and analyzing data traffic on motorways and first class roads has been deployed, and three systems for automated monitoring of weather conditions were installed.

Deputy Minister Ginev wished the participants in the third edition of the annual logistics conference successful and fruitful work.
