Zlatograd is the first border municipality equipped with free wireless internet under the joint initiative of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications and the International Telecommunications Union. The free wi-fi area covers about 20 acres and was launched today by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borissov. "The technology will allow the 7,000 inhabitants of the municipality to use free Internet for information, services and communication with family and friends", said the Deputy Minister at the opening. The donation is worth 15,000 Swiss francs and includes funds for maintenance and operation of the equipment installed.

Valery Borissov noted that under the initiative of MTITC, in 2012 the International Telecommunication Union has financed the equipment of 10 working stations (hardware, software and facilities) in two schools for children with visual impairments in Sofia ("Louis Braille" school) and Varna ("Prof. Dr. Ivan Shishmanov” school). In 2014 computer equipment and software was provided to the Home for elderly people with visual disabilities in Dobrich.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Smolyan Nikolay Melemov and the Mayor of Zlatograd Miroslav Yanchev.

Later today, Deputy Minister Valery Borissov donated 20 computers, printers, scanners and network equipment to “St. Knyaz Boris I” School in the village of Startsevo, Zlatograd. The equipment is provided by "Information Services" AD. "Computers will make the training not only more efficient but also more fun for the 140 graduates of the school aged 7 to 18", said Deputy Minister Valeri Borissov. The school management has an idea to train the parents to use computer who otherwise have no opportunity to acquire IT skills.
