The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Murad Türk, launched the construction of a new traction substation in the area of Ihtiman. The facility is part of the large-scale project for the modernization of the Sofia–Plovdiv railway line.
The Deputy Transport Minister emphasized that the construction of the facility will contribute to more reliable trains, fewer delays, and better service for the people. "With this, we are taking another real step towards a modern railway that meets the expectations of citizens and businesses," Deputy Minister Türk stated.
"The modernization will lead to more efficient operation, cost optimization, and a significant improvement in the quality of the power supply—a key factor for the safe movement of trains," Murad Türk said.
The event was attended by the management of the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC), representatives of the contractor, local authorities, and others.
The scope of the project includes the design and construction of a new traction substation, the implementation of modern management, protection, and automation systems, as well as the establishment of communication connectivity allowing for remote monitoring and control of the energy facilities. The contract value for the construction is €5,340,936.74 excluding VAT and is co-financed under the "Transport Connectivity" Program 2021–2027.
