Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” launches operation to secure the drifting MV “Chelsea-3”

The Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” (EAMA) has launched an operation to secure MV “Chelsea-3” after the vessel began to drift. The ship has entered the 12-nautical-mile zone east of Primorsko.

The worsening hydrometeorological conditions caused the vessel to drift southwards from its original position.

As previously reported, the Maltese-flagged motor vessel “Chelsea-3” was struck by drones in the early hours of 13 October, 17 nautical miles east of the town of Byala. The vessel was sailing in ballast from the Turkish Black Sea port of Giresun to the port of Giurgiulești.

The 15-member crew was successfully rescued during the incident, while the vessel remained at anchor in the open sea.

Involved in the operation are the tug “Aliot” and the rescue boat “Spasitel 2” of EAMA, which are en route to the area to secure the vessel, provide towage and bring it to the Port of Burgas.

EAMA is monitoring the situation in real time in order to ensure the safety of navigation and protect the environment.
