The government, institutions, and contractors must work in full coordination to ensure fast internet and better mobile coverage throughout the country. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, during a coordination meeting on the broadband connectivity project.
A plan was prepared with specific measures, responsibilities, and mechanisms for faster coordination among institutions. The goal is for the project to be completed on time and to provide high-speed internet to nearly 500,000 people in remote and sparsely populated areas, connect 185 municipalities to the national network, and improve mobile coverage across the country.
"At the recommendation of the Prime Minister, we are reviewing all strategic projects, including those with European funding. The high-speed connectivity project is the largest investment in digital infrastructure in our country and must be successfully implemented," stated Minister Peev.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Executive Agency for Electronic Governance, the Road Infrastructure Agency, as well as the mobile operators carrying out the project activities.
During the discussions, the key issues requiring urgent coordination were identified, as well as specific contact persons from each institution who will be responsible for accelerating the processes and ensuring the timely implementation of the activities.
Minister Peev will also raise some of these issues with his colleagues in the Council of Ministers to ensure maximum cooperation for the successful completion of the project within the planned timeframe.
The project is funded under the Recovery and Resilience Plan and is key to the digital development of the regions and to reducing inequalities in access to digital services.
