Minister Georgi Peev: When the problems are clearly identified, a realistic plan for Bulgarian Posts can be developed

The situation at Bulgarian Posts is extremely complex. At a time when the budget and financial framework for next year is being prepared, the role of trade union organisations is particularly important. With these words, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev addressed representatives of three of the company's trade union organisations - the Communications Trade Union Federation affiliated with CITUB, the Democratic Communications Trade Union, and the Communications Federation affiliated with the “Podkrepa” Confederation of Labour - who attended a meeting at the ministry.

“I invited you in order to hear your assessment of how the company's operations can be improved and why the financial difficulties are deepening. When the problems are clearly identified, a realistic plan can be developed,” the minister said.

The trade union representatives pointed out that liquidity is the biggest problem and that it gives rise to all the others. According to them, the company has been managed by several different chief executive officers over the past two years, but there has been no clarity regarding the concepts on the basis of which they were appointed. The lack of a vision and an understanding of how the company should be strengthened and developed was identified as a key issue. The trade union representatives were of the opinion that oversight by the Ministry of Transport and Communications should be strengthened in order to achieve tangible results.

“Now is the time for everyone who is genuinely concerned about the future of the company to sit down at the same table,” Minister Peev said. He expressed his gratitude for the work of the employees of Bulgarian Posts, who over the past year have taken on new and highly responsible tasks. Some of them had to acquire, within a short period of time, skills comparable to those of bank employees in order to ensure the smooth introduction of the euro as the national currency. “They performed excellently,” he stressed.
