Road safety has become a national priority – both Parliament and society are engaged in the dialogue, regardless of political affiliation. This was stated by Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev at a meeting of the Transport and Communications Committee of the National Assembly. Members of Parliament are considering several bills amending the Road Traffic Act, submitted by different parliamentary groups.
Minister Peev emphasised that good proposals should be considered within a broader context. According to him, a comprehensive approach is needed in order to achieve the strategic objectives that have been set.
He announced that the expert working group at the Ministry of Transport and Communications is preparing a package of amendments to specific laws and secondary legislation, which will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration.
During the discussion, the Minister pointed out that the increasing use of digitalisation and artificial intelligence in transport systems brings significant benefits, but at the same time also increases technological risks. To ensure safety, additional risk analyses, simulations and impact assessments are mandatory.
