The company "Imena.bg" will register Internet names in Cyrillic ".бг"

The company "Imena.bg" was approved by an expert committee established to the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski. Thus, the organization receives support from the Internet community in Bulgaria to create and administrate  a registry of Top Level  domain in Cyrillic ".бг".

On this occasion, the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski commented: " Soon we can register and use Internet names entirely in Bulgarian. This is an important step towards preserving our native language and cultural identity in the global digital communication. " According to Minister Moskovski the possibility of Internet addresses entirely in Cyrillic, lifts barriers to people who do not know the Latin alphabet, to use Internet.

MTITC announced on July 1, 2015 the possibility of submition of proposals. The candidates were two - "Imena.bg" AD and Bulgarian domain registry association.

After the assessment of the proposals, "Imena.bg" AD was chosen as the candidate which fullfils in greater extent the requirements set forth in the document "Principles and requirements for registration of names in the Internet domain .бг (IDN ccTLD .бг)".

Shareholders of "Imena.bg" are: Bulgarian Library and Information Association, „Register.BG" OOD, Electronic Communications Association , "Digital Systems" OOD, "Digital Systems Limited” OOD and "Global libraries" foundation.

The support of the government and the Bulgarian Internet community is necessary for the proceeding of the candidate to the next step of the process - applying to IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority).

The selection of a registry of Internet names in the national language is the final phase of our efforts so that Bulgaria could have Internet names in the native alphabet.
