The First Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council is the emphasis of the thematic plan for Postage Stamp Issuing in 2017

A postage stamp will mark the first Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The issue is one of the highlights in the thematic plan for postal-philatelic editions in 2017. The document was signed by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski. Proposals for themes were made by the Special Council on Postage Stamp Issuing which since 1 August to mid-October examined hundreds of proposals for postal-philatelic editions for the next year.

The year will be started with a postage stamp on the occasion of the announcement of Varna as an European Youth Capital 2017. The edition will be validated in January 2017.

The "Europe" theme, which is represented every year in the thematic plan, in 2017 will be under the motto "Castles". Within this project will be created two postage stamps. One of the images that will decorate the Bulgarian philatelic project will probably be the fortress "Baba Vida" in Vidin, which is totally preserved from the Middle Ages to these days.

It is expected that collectors of postage stamps will be attracted by the theme "Sea landscapes and lighthouses", an edition with the logo of the organization “National Geographic” and the projects "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019 - Ancient mosaics".
