Funding procedure has been opened for electric vehicle charging stations on TEN-T network

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced a procedure to build charging infrastructure for electric vehicles on the roads. It provides support to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to build an infrastructure network for alternative fuels.

Funding is provided by the Transport Connectivity Programme. A total of BGN 42.4 million is earmarked for charging centres for electric vehicles on the TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network) core and comprehensive road network. The first procedure to be announced today is worth BGN 10 million. Based on its results, new calls will subsequently be opened.

The maximum grant for an individual project is up to BGN 500 000. Under the terms, micro and small enterprises will receive the most support – up to 65% of eligible project implementation costs.

On the TEN-T network, charging points for vehicles with a minimum capacity of 600 kW and at least 2 charging points with an output of 150 kW should be built. This will allow charging an electric vehicle in about 15 minutes. On the main TEN-T network, charging points for commercial vehicles must have a minimum capacity of 2 800 kW and at least 2 charging points with an output of 350 kW.

According to the conditions, projects in the South West region are not eligible for funding as it is a "region in transition" and does not fall under the funding scope of the European Regional Development Fund.
