More than EUR 1.5 Billion Will Be Directed Towards Green Projects in the Transport Sector

More than EUR 1.5 billion will be invested under the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021—2027, which will finance various modes of environmentally friendly transport in Bulgaria. This is what the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov said in his speech today at the Green Week 2023 Forum: The Green Transition in Central and Eastern European Countries 2023.

Minister Gvozdeykov pointed out that 80% of the total budget of the programme includes projects that implement green policies and specified that the minimum requirement is 30%. The Transport Minister added that the renewal of the railway rolling stock should be completed by 2026 under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. ‘New and modern trains will then run on the tracks, making rail transport more convenient, more attractive and much more environmentally friendly,’ he emphasized.

‘More than EUR 600 million will be invested in projects for the development of the railway infrastructure in the country only under the Transport Connectivity Programme, and more than BGN 1 billion are the funds under the Recovery and Resilience Plan,’ Minister Gvozdeykov further stressed.  He also presented a EUR 40 million-project to build charging stations on roads and in ports. From his words it became clear that at the moment work is being done to clarify all the parameters and conditions of the project.

‘In me you have a serious advocate of the green transition policy and I believe that this will be evident in all my actions in the future,’ Gvozdeykov said.
