On 7 June 2022, at 12:25 p.m., from Vidin station, FT No 7623 departed from the station in composition of 4 passenger coaches V4, 175 tonnes, towed by locomotive No 91520044158-1, driven by a first-person locomotive driver and a second-person locomotive driver, a train crew with head of train and conductor. The train run daily on the TOS in the direction of Vidin-Sofia and is serviced by the railway undertaking for passenger transport BDZ PS EOOD. There were about 60 passengers on the train from the Vidin main station.
FT No 7623 was on time and arrived at Dimovo station at 13:14 p.m., after a stay of 1 minute, it departed at 13:15 p.m. to Oreshets station. During the movement of the train between the stations Dimovo — Oreshets, a distant sensor for ALCD control at km 127+ 123 was activated, which, once activated, activated the pre-level crossing traffic light, which began to shine with a flashing moon white light. That gave an indication to the locomotive driver that the ALCD was activated and operated normally. The train was approaching the level crossing, and with the locomotive whistle sent the signal “Attention”. At that time, along the road to the right of the track in the direction of the train, a loaded heavy-duty truck “Iveco” was approaching in parallel to it. The driver of the vehicle turned left and did not stop in front of the regularly activated road traffic light, entered the danger zone of the level crossing, and at about 13:30 p.m. the train collided into the heavy goods vehicle passing through the railway level crossing.
Because of the collision, the driver of the heavy loaded truck and the two locomotive drivers had died. Three passengers were slightly injured by the train.
Because of the collision, the locomotive control cabin was destroyed. The truck was completely destroyed. The first coach to the locomotive was derailed with the three wheel sets. There were minor damage on the track. There was no damage to the level crossing.
The train traffic between the stations of Dimovo and Oreshets was interrupted from 13:30 p.m.on 7.6.2022 and was restored as scheduled at 03:42 a.m. on 8.6.2022.
