Agreement on cooperation in aviation signed between Bulgaria and Montenegro

Bulgaria and Montenegro set up a working group to prepare an air service between the two capitals

Sofia and Podgorica are launching joint actions to open a direct airline. This was agreed with the signing of a declaration on cooperation in the field of air transport between the transport ministers of Bulgaria and Montenegro.

The document was initialled by Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov and Montenegrin Minister of Transport Maja Vukicevic, as part of the official visit of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and his delegation to Montenegro.

"This is the first important step in opening a direct air line between our two countries, and our ambition is for it to happen as soon as possible," Deputy Prime Minister Karadzhov said.

A joint expert working group has already been established for the preparation of the line, with the participation of transport ministries, aviation administrations, airport operators, as well as an air carrier from the Montenegrin side.

During the bilateral meeting, the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Bulgaria will fully cooperate with any airline that wants to operate direct flights between the two countries.

"Bulgarian airport operators offer incentive schemes for air carriers launching new destinations. Montenegrin carriers could take advantage of these incentives, "Karadzhov added.

The two ministers also discussed strengthening transport connectivity in the region, with a focus on accelerating infrastructure projects. The Bulgarian side presented its experience in the concession of transport infrastructure sites – including ports and airports, which can be useful for Montenegrin partners.
