Bulgaria and Azerbaijan discuss direct transport connections

The development of direct transport connections was discussed at the video conference meeting between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The talks were headed by Deputy Ministers Nikolay Naydenov and Rahman Hummatov with the participation of representatives of civil aviation administrations, port operators, road transport administrations, railway carriers and Sofia Airport. H.E. Mr. Huseyn Huseynov – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Sofia also participated in the meeting.

The Bulgarian Deputy Minister emphasized that both countries were interested in attracting more freight traffic between Asia and Europe. "We realize the importance of direct transport connections and continue to look for opportunities to restore direct flights between the two capitals", Nikolay Naydenov said. In this regard, the representatives of the aviation administrations of both countries confirmed that they were thoroughly prepared for assistance.

The Azerbaijani side pointed out the importance of the Trans-Caspian transport route. This corridor passes through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and continues through Turkiye to Western Europe.

Nikolay Naydenov and Rahman Hummatov emphasized that it was necessary to organize expert talks on various topics between the Bulgarian and Azerbaijani institutions, with the aim of finding working models for cooperation.
