Bulgaria and Macedonia will prepare a roadmap on reduction of roaming tariffs

A Roadmap on reduction of roaming tariffs between Bulgaria and Macedonia will be prepared at a joint meeting of the ministries of both countries, the regulators and the mobile operators. This was agreed today at a meeting of the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski and the Macedonian Minister of Information Society and Administration Damyan Manchevski. Minister Manchevski proposed Skopje to host the talks in the coming weeks.

Reduction of roaming tariffs is an accent in the Bulgarian government’s policy, Minister Moskovski said during the meeting. He added that this step is part of the policy of integration the Western Balkans into the European digital economy.

Minister Moskovski emphasized that in 2017, the Bulgarian side initiated the signing of agreements with Macedonia and Serbia for a gradual reduction of the tariffs of the calls and of the mobile Internet. It enable all local regulators to make market analyzes towards achieving the real steps on reduction of roaming tariffs. "We owe it to consumers. According to data from Bulgarian operators, only for a month, about 300 000 users used roaming services when traveling to our western neighbors. They have made about 180 000 conversations with a total duration of more than 600 000 minutes, sent about 120 000 SMS and spent over 130 000 MB data, "said Minister Moskovski.
