Bulgaria and Romania are preparing a joint Connecting Europe Facility project for the second bridge over the Danube at Ruse

The technical and financial aspects for the construction of the second bridge over the river Danube between Ruse and Giurgiu will be clarified soon with the aim of the two countries to apply under the Connecting Europe Facility with a joint feasibility study project. This was discussed by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov and the State Secretary of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania Bogdan Mindrescu during a meeting in Bucharest.

"Accelerating the procedures for the construction of a second bridge over the Danube at Ruse-Giurgiu and the launch of the ferry line between the two cities are priority projects that will significantly improve transport connectivity in the region and reduce the travel time on the north-south route," Deputy Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov said.

They also discussed the joint project "Fast Danube", which will improve navigation on the Danube in the Bulgarian-Romanian section and will ensure year-round safe transport activities on the river. Deputy Minister Nedyalkov clarified that all documentation related to the EIA of the project has been submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Water and their opinion is currently awaited.
