Bulgaria actively participates in the activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and has made a significant contribution to the organisation’s initiatives—such as hosting all editions of the Regional Cybersecurity Forum for Europe. This was pointed out by the Secretary-General of the global telecommunications organisation, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, who attended an event organised by Bulgaria in Geneva to present the country’s candidacy for re-election to the ITU Council.
In an address to the participants, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Dimitar Nedyalkov, presented Bulgaria’s main priorities as a current and future member of the organisation’s leadership. He emphasised transparent governance, the modernisation of work processes, and the avoidance of overlapping activities and functions among the organisation’s various structures.
Deputy Minister Nedyalkov further emphasised that in implementing its priorities, Bulgaria will continue to promote constructive dialogue based on mutual respect, understanding, and a shared vision for a more connected and inclusive world.
Elections for the new composition of the ITU Council will take place during the Conference of Plenipotentiaries from November 9–27, 2026, in Doha, Qatar.
