Bulgaria presented its candidacy for a new mandate in the organization of global telecommunications in Geneva

Bulgaria submitted its candidacy for a new mandate to the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during a joint event with Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania, held on 20 April 2026 in Geneva.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov outlined Bulgaria's priorities for the period 2027-2030, emphasizing the need for a strong, efficient and future-oriented International Telecommunication Union.

The four countries are candidates from Region C, where competition is highly contested, eight countries are vying for five seats in the Council. This puts the campaign among the most dynamic within the organization.

The event brought together diplomats from the Permanent Representations to international organizations in the UN system committed to digital policies. Within the framework of the program, a discussion was held on the challenges and priorities facing the ITU in the next term.

Bulgaria's participation is part of its active campaign for re-election to the Council. It is the key governing body of the Union that determines the strategic direction of global development in the field of telecommunications.
