Bulgaria submitted to the diplomatic corps its candidacy for re-election to the Council of the International Telecommunication Union

Bulgaria presented to the diplomatic corps its candidacy for re-election to the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the period 2027-2030 at an event organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Our country is one of the longest-standing members of the organization that defines the world's telecommunications policy. For more than three decades, Bulgaria has been part of the governing structure of the Union, and in November this year there will be elections for a new mandate.

"In the digital environment, telecommunications functions as a critical infrastructure on which all other sectors depend - from the economy to security. That is why participation in the decision-making process requires consistency, expertise and predictability. Bulgaria has proven that it can be such a partner, and this also matters in the wider context of dynamic geopolitical processes, " Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov said.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Radi Naydenov said that Bulgaria has a long-standing commitment to the Council of the International Telecommunication Union and has been a member since 1990. He has consistently supported the mission to promote cooperation, equal access to information and communication technologies and global connectivity for sustainable development.

He stressed that in its current mandate, Bulgaria actively contributes to transparency, accountability and effectiveness in the Union's activities. Our country supports the efforts to modernize the organization, the effective use of limited resources and the development of initiatives to overcome the digital divide and global digital integration.

During the presentation, our country stated its readiness to continue its active role in the development of global telecommunications policy, with emphasis on the need for cooperation, transparency and inclusion. Bulgaria stressed the importance of connectivity and digital transformation as key factors for sustainable development, economic growth and social integration.
