Changes to the theory test for would-be drivers introduced

20 years of his life have passed in the world of high speeds and it is from this position that he knows how dangerous a car can be when not driven sensibly. This is how the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov opened a ceremony for the awarding of the first Annual Awards ‘Initiatives to support road safety’, organized by the State Agency Road Safety.
‘It is high time for politicians to sit down and do our job, and for society to realise its commitment to the issue, because there is no more important value than human life,’ Minister Gvozdeykov said. He explained that from early next week a new feature is being introduced to the theory test for candidate drivers — interactive videos that will show real situations on the road. They will assess the ability of future drivers to foresee the dangers on the road, as well as their quick judgement in specific situations. The Transport Minister pointed out that work on changes in the practical part is also underway, which aims to further limit the subjective factor. ‘We are in the process of introducing a new system that will electronically and randomly determine the route of each practical exam just before it starts,’ he said. With regard to the technical condition of vehicles, the Minister drew attention to the electronic data exchange with the Ministry of Interior, introduced a few months ago, which allows, if a dangerous technical defect is detected during the technical inspection, to send information electronically to the Ministry of Interior. Changes in the regulations, which foresee the abolition of manual entry of information in the technical inspection stations, are also ready. The data from the meters at the stations will be sent directly through an information system, which will again eliminate the possibility of human intervention.
Minister Gvozdeykov awarded two prizes in the competition. The award in the category ‘Road Safety Improvement Project’ was given to the Road Infrastructure Agency for the implemented measures to make the Kresna Gorge safer. The award for contribution to the National Municipal Campaign ‘Safe Streets’ was presented to the municipality of Lyaskovets.
