The Committee on Transport and Communications approved at first reading the 2026 State Budget Bill, submitted with the opinion of the Council of Ministers. During the meeting, the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev presented the main priorities in the budget of the ministry and answered questions from members of Parliament.
“This is a budget of pragmatism. We are currently in the process of revising contracts, prioritizing projects and looking for the right approach for their implementation,” Minister Georgi Peev said.
The total amount of expenditure under the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for 2026 amounts to EUR 571.7 million, and the planned net own revenues are EUR 73.4 million.
“The largest spending areas are related to the railway sector – EUR 294.9 million for the National Railway Infrastructure Company and EUR 158.9 million for BDZ-Passenger Transport,” Minister Peev noted.
The 2026 budget framework provides for another EUR 48.5 million in compensation for Bulgarian Posts EAD, EUR 16.1 million in capital transfers for the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”, EUR 4.4 million for Bulgaria Heli Med Service and a total of EUR 186.2 million in subsidies and compensation in road transport.
“With the financial resources provided, the management of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and all employees will make every effort to meet the planned goals and tasks for 2026,” Minister Georgi Peev told the members of the Commission.
