Deputy Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov: We need to accelerate the construction of the third bridge over the Danube

We need a significant acceleration of the procedures for the construction of the third bridge over the Danube River. Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov and the President of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and Secretary General of the National Union of Road Hauliers in Romania (UNTRR) Radu Dinescu united around this opinion. The topic was the focus of their conversation during the International Transport Forum (ITF), which took place on May 21 and 22, 2025, in Leipzig, Germany.

Deputy Minister Nedyalkov emphasized that the second bridge at Ruse-Giurgiu is among the strategic infrastructure projects for both Bulgaria and the European Union. The facility is part of the European policy for ensuring military mobility and transport connectivity in the North-South direction. He underlined Bulgaria’s readiness to discuss other potential locations along the Danube for the construction of additional bridges, aiming to improve cross-border connectivity, also in the North-South direction.

During the working session dedicated to the restoration of Ukraine’s transport infrastructure, the Deputy Minister expressed the need for a common European framework to support the country in reconstructing and restoring its transport system.

“The war has had a serious impact on Ukraine's transport infrastructure, hindering the movement of goods and people both within the country and across its borders. The restoration and connection of the Ukrainian transport network with the European one is of key importance for increasing trade and transport flows in the region, which is a priority for Bulgaria as well,” stated Deputy Minister Nedyalkov.
