Deputy Minister Lyuben Nanov: Bulgaria Accelerates Transport and Digital Connectivity in Southeast Europe

Bulgaria is accelerating transport and digital connectivity in Southeast Europe. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Lyuben Nanov, at a meeting organised by the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU, dedicated to regional connectivity, transport, and communications. The forum was attended by representatives of European institutions, diplomatic missions, and the business community.

“Improving transport connectivity is a strategic priority for Bulgaria, which is actively working towards its integration into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and the development of the new European Transport Corridor Baltic Sea – Black Sea –  Aegean Sea,” said Deputy Minister Nanov. He noted that progress is being accelerated on the modernisation of the Sofia – Gyueshevo and Sofia – Kalotina railway lines.

Nanov emphasised that Bulgaria is working jointly with Romania and Greece on the preparation of joint projects for new bridge and railway facilities, which will be proposed for European funding by the end of 2025.

In the field of digital connectivity, the Deputy Minister pointed out that 5G coverage in Bulgaria now exceeds 81%, with the country actively participating in cross-border initiatives such as 5G Balkans and 5G SEAGUL, aimed at developing cross-border digital services. A priority is to ensure high-speed connectivity and uninterrupted 5G coverage along the TEN-T corridors passing through Bulgaria. Our country also supports the forthcoming Digital Networks Act, which will facilitate the deployment of next-generation high-speed networks and the development of intelligent transport and digital services.
