With the opening of the new road and pedestrian overpass in Kermen, a safer and better-organized transport environment is created for the residents of the town and for all those passing through the area. The new facilities eliminate the risky crossing of the railway line at grade and provide a significantly higher level of safety for both road traffic and pedestrians. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Murad Turk, during the official opening ceremony of a new road and pedestrian overpass in the town of Kermen.
The construction of the facilities is part of the large-scale project "Rehabilitation of the Plovdiv – Burgas Railway Line, Phase 2," which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. Its total value amounts to 374 million euros. This is one of the key transport corridors connecting the interior of the country with the seaports.
"Our goal is for this line to become a modern and high-tech railway highway that provides faster, more reliable, and safer railway connections," Murad Turk emphasized.
The Deputy Transport Minister pointed out that the value of the project in Kermen is 1.5 million euros – a relatively small investment that makes a significant contribution to the safety and peace of mind of the people in the region.
He expressed gratitude to the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC), the contractor, and the construction supervision for the good teamwork during the implementation of the project. "Until recently, I was part of the employer's team and I am familiar in detail with the challenges of constructing such infrastructure projects. This experience gives me a clear idea of the problems on the ground and confidence that our efforts are yielding real results," Deputy Minister Turk added.
The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Board of SE NRIC, Maria Genova, the Director General, Yordan Varbanov, representatives of the contracting firm, and others.
The site "Design and construction of a new road overpass at km 158+777 and a new pedestrian overpass at km 160+300 in the Konyovo – Kermen inter-station section," part of the project "Rehabilitation of the Plovdiv–Burgas Railway Line, Phase 2 - Stage II," is funded by the "Transport Connectivity" Program 2021-2027. The value of the site is 1,497,568.81 euros.
