Work on the Plovdiv tunnel and railway junction is proceeding according to schedule. This became clear during an inspection by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Murad Türk. He observed the progress of construction activities on the tunnel under the railway station and the modernisation of the railway junction in the city.
During the inspection, Deputy Minister Türk examined the concrete work on the inner walls of the tunnel and the road markings on Hristo Botev Blvd. and the roundabout, as well as the implementation of the new information system at Plovdiv Station. Work on the pedestrian overpasses and facilities in the area is progressing, including the construction of elevators that will provide better accessibility for pedestrians.
"I am seeing mobilisation and good organisation. This is a project of immense importance for Plovdiv and the region, and it is crucial that it be completed to a high standard and on time," emphasised Deputy Minister Türk.
Physical progress on the contract for Plovdiv Station and the tunnel breakthrough has now reached 90%. Progress on the modernisation of the Plovdiv-Krumovo and Plovdiv-Skutare railway sections stands at 86%, with finishing work currently underway at the Skutare and Trakiya stations.
The "Development of the Plovdiv Railway Junction" project is among the most significant infrastructure investments in the country, with a total value of over €124.6 million excluding VAT and scheduled for completion by the end of September this year. The project includes the modernisation of the railway track, the overhead contact system, the signalling system, new overpasses, pedestrian bridges, and the key breakthrough that will significantly improve mobility and connectivity in Plovdiv and the region.
