Deputy Minister Nedyalkov: Our goal is for Bulgaria to establish itself as a logistics hub in the region, connecting Europe with the Middle East and Asia

Our goal is for Bulgaria to establish itself as a logistics hub in the region, connecting Europe with the Middle East and Asia. Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov said at the opening of the Logistics Business Conference 2025, organized by Logistics Magazine.

He pointed out that funds have been provided under the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027 for the construction and modernization of intermodal terminals. “This investment will contribute to improving the infrastructure and creating ideal conditions for the easier integration of different modes of transport,” Dimitar Nedyalkov stated.

“In recent months, we have been able to visit most of the country to get acquainted with the transport challenges and to meet the business and societal needs. This allowed us to identify key problems and specific steps to improve transport connectivity,” Deputy Minister Nedyalkov noted.

He highlighted the role of Bulgarian ports in achieving greater logistical connectivity. “Two projects are already being implemented in Burgas, which will increase the capacity and allow the accommodation of larger ships,” Nedyalkov explained and added that concession procedures are being prepared for the Varna port, which will attract private investments and accelerate the process of modernization.

“The Ministry of Transport and Communications is actively working to complete Corridor 8 on the Bulgarian side, which is extremely important not only for Bulgaria’s connectivity with neighbouring countries, but will also increase the flow of passengers and cargo through the region,” the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications added. Dimitar Nedyalkov stated that one of the goals is to increase the share of rail and combined transport by 2030, thereby easing road traffic, reducing carbon emissions and improving the reliability of supply chains.

The Director of the National Transport Policy Directorate at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Dimitar Savov, also took part in the conference. He emphasized the importance and benefits of the digitalization of logistics services and announced that work is underway towards the introduction of an electronic consignment note (eFTI), which will reduce the administrative burden and give more operational freedom to businesses. It is expected to be introduced in 2027.
