Nearly 200 fines for overloading since the beginning of the year
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has proposed legislative changes for tighter control of overloaded trucks. The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov announced today in Plovdiv at the opening of the “Safe Road Infrastructure” conference.
“We have prepared a proposal to amend the Road Transport Act, so that all measuring points where transport documents are issued will submit information to the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” about the exact weight of the loaded vehicles. If overloading is detected, the system will not allow the issuance of a transport document,” Nedyalkov highlighted.
He added that since the beginning of the year, the inspectors at the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” have issued nearly 200 fines for overloading. The violations were found both during regular inspections and during joint operations with the Road Infrastructure Agency, the Toll Management and the Ministry of Interior.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized other key road safety measures – the digitalization introduced on July 12 in the training of drivers, which ensures that trainees receive the full amount of theoretical and practical training classes, as well as the increased control over school transport. Before the beginning of the school year, school buses were inspected, and no serious violations were found. Legislative changes are also being prepared to equip all school buses with a locking breathalyser that blocks the engine if alcohol if the driver tests positive for alcohol.
“All of these actions are part of our common goal – to build a sustainable road safety system. Through consistency and joint efforts, we can achieve a lasting reduction in road casualties and ensure the safety of every road user,” Nedyalkov stated.
