The choice of the state to exchange BGN for EUR was very logical, but in 2,230 settlements where there are no financial institutions, the offices of the Bulgarian Post will become banks for the people there. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov said at the opening of the information campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, which took place today in Burgas.
More than 1,500 Bulgarian Post employees have already been trained, and all technical equipment related to the exchange has been purchased. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to the interaction with the BNB, cooperation with the Ministry of Interior is key. "We have agreed on a permanent police presence in front of every post office, where there will be an exchange, for the entire 6-month period, thus we will have double security. People should feel confident that they can exchange their banknotes at post offices without fear," the deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Grozdan Karadzhov informed that modern software has been introduced in the postal operator, which will support the exchange. The system will also be upgraded with an Electronic Pension Card, which allows the pension to be received from any post office in the country.
When we joined the European Union in 2007, we agreed that we would also adopt the single European currency. This day has come and I am happy that a dream of the Bulgarians has been coming true for decades, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
