Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov: Cybersecurity Education Must Begin in Early Childhood

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov took part today in the National Roundtable on “Cybersecurity in the Defence of People, Education, and Society,” held in Sofia. The event was organized by the Academy of the Ministry of Interior and the University of Security and Economics – Plovdiv, in partnership with the Council of University Rectors.

In his address, Minister Karadjov emphasized that cybersecurity must be integrated into the education system starting from early childhood. “Introducing children to the basic rules of safe behavior in the online environment is extremely important Our schools still owe them proper guidance in this area,” he stated. The Minister shared his personal concern as a parent, expressing fears about the safety of children in the digital space.

“Cybersecurity is not merely a technological issue. It is, above all, a human issue — a matter of awareness, education, and responsibility,” the Minister added. He stressed that the greatest vulnerability of digital systems lies not only in software or hardware, but in the human factor.

The Deputy Prime Minister drew attention to the rapid integration of digital technologies into everyday life and the growing risks associated with virtual services - from online shopping to e-health and e-governance. “The problem is usually not in the technology, but in people — in their understanding and responsible behavior,” he said.

“I hope our education system will respond to this priority More young people must be encouraged to pursue careers in cybersecurity so we can build a society capable of defending itself in the digital age,” Karadjov concluded.
